Your First Day Guide

Everything you need to know before you step on the mats.

1. What to Wear & Bring
Item Description

-
The Gear: If you don't have a Gi yet, wear a tight-fitting t-shirt (or rashguard) and athletic shorts/leggings with no zippers or pockets.
-
Mouth Guard: Recommended, but not required for Day 1. Accidental bumps happen when you're just learning how to move. If you want to grab one, a basic "boil-and-bite" from any sporting goods store is perfect!
-
Footwear: Never walk barefoot off the mats (especially in the restroom) and never wear shoes on the mats.
-
Personal Care: Please ensure finger and toe nails are trimmed short. Remove all jewelry, watches, and piercings before class.
-
Hydration: Bring a full water bottle. You’re going to need it!

2. Mat Culture & Safety

-
The "Tap" is Your Friend: If you feel uncomfortable or caught in a hold, you can:
-
Tap your partner (clearly and firmly).
-
Tap the ground/mat.
-
Say "TAP" loudly.
-
-
Look Out For Each Other: Life is busy enough—don’t let a preventable injury be the reason you're stuck on the sidelines. Look out for yourself and your training partners; you can’t get better if you can’t get on the mat. Safety ensures the grind stays on track.
-
Ask Questions: Our higher belts (Blue, Purple, Brown, Black) are here to help you. If you’re lost during a drill, just ask.
-
Stay Home if You're Sick: We’re big believers that it’s better to give than to receive—but not when it comes to germs. If you have a cold, the flu, or any skin issues (rashes/infections), please stay home and rest. Your partners will thank you for not "sharing the wealth."
-
Hygiene First: We pride ourselves on a clean gym. Please ensure your gear is washed after every single session.
-
Show Up Early: Aim for 10–15 minutes before class to get changed and ready.

3. No Pressure. No Commitments.
This one-week trial is simply the time for you to see if Jiu Jitsu is something you’d like to pursue.

-
Zero Pressure: There are no hidden commitments and absolutely nothing to cancel if you decide it’s not for you.
-
Simple Entry: We don’t ask for any info beyond the basics on your waiver until you’re ready to officially join the team.
-
Your Goal: Learn the basic movements, meet the crew, and have fun.

If nothing changes, nothing changes. The hardest part is just showing up on Day 1. Walk through the door, put in the work, and see if
Jiu-Jitsu is the vehicle for change you’re looking for.

See you on the mats!
